Transitional Nursery with an Oversized Abstract Canvas

One large piece of art calms a big nursery far better than several small ones, and it grows with the child. Hang the canvas over the glider rather than the crib, and size it to about two-thirds the combined width of the chair and ottoman. Hang it lower than you would in a living room, with the bottom edge eight to ten inches above the chair back, so art and seat read as one group. A picture light adds a gentle glow for late feeds without switching on the overhead. Soft gray abstracts suit a transitional room, and a canvas is lighter and safer than framed glass.
